Report: Despite Security Concerns, Business Leaders Embrace AI for Process Automation

While organizations rush headlong into AI implementations to automate their business processes, IT leaders remain concerned about how the technology will impact network and data security, according to a new report.

Nearly 100 percent of organizations represented in the 2025 Celonis AI Process Optimization Report said they have implemented some form of AI in their business and nearly three quarters (73 percent) indicated they are happy with the ROI they are receiving. And, across departments (i.e., process and operations, IT, finance and shared services, and supply chain), at least 72 percent of those polled expect budgets for AI to increase in the next 12 months. At the same time, however, nine out of ten IT leaders remain concerned.

“IT leaders understand the significance of AI in technological development, with 87 percent saying they expect the technology platforms they use to leverage the latest AI developments,” the report’s authors wrote. “But despite this acceptance of AI’s pivotal role, 90 percent have concerns over increasing the use of AI within their organizations.”

Most cite security as their top concern, but more than a third cited a gap between what they have and what they need or the ability to demonstrate ROI as their top worry. Overall, however, business leaders said the technology is transformative and will continue to increase their use of it in automation efforts.

Celonis surveyed more than 1,600 business leaders across 10 countries in the research. Download a copy of the report here.
