Report Cools Overheated AI Hype

While hype surrounding the role AI agents will play in process automation has maintained its momentum, some recent voices have given rise to some doubt around how soon transformational change will take  place.

One recent report suggests that businesses are having difficulty successfully implementing AI projects at all, never mind scaling them to more productive heights. According to the report, from collaboration technology provider Asana, more than 40 percent of companies polled say they have abandoned most of their AI initiatives compared to only 17 percent that said that the year before.

The study shows more than one-third (35 percent) of IT leaders are reducing AI investments they made in 2024, less than 20 percent of organizations have successfully scaled AI agents across their organization and another third have no current implementation plans or strategies.

“The 2024 rush to deploy AI has given rise to a sobering reality,” Asana said in the report. “Promise has been buried under a pile of pilots, proof-of-concepts and half-baked strategies.”
