UiPath has launched a product aimed at capturing the operational knowledge organizations use to execute business processes and making that information available for automation and AI projects.
UiPath says its new Cartographer tool goes beyond what traditional process intelligence measures, creating what the automation technology provider calls a “Map of Work” that takes inputs other than event logs and desktop activity.
According to the New York City-based company, the product addresses a longstanding challenge in process automation: Much of the information needed to automate work resides with employees or across documents, spreadsheets and other systems. Organizations frequently must reconstruct that knowledge when developing new automation initiatives.
Cartographer uses guided conversations about human judgment, exceptions and information from existing sources to capture that context. The resulting maps can be used to generate design documents and specifications for agents, workflows and automations built on the UiPath Platform.
“For years, businesses have digitized their data without ever capturing the enterprise context of how that data is actually put to work,” said UiPath founder and CEO Daniel Dines. “Map of Work is how we translate that gap into something concrete.”
According to the company, the tool offers prebuilt maps for processes such as loan origination, healthcare claims review and source-to-pay; maps from its Process Atlas library; or users can build their own.
