The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), in the midst of an effort to modernize its systems and training methods, is seeking input from automation professionals, among others, to learn about capabilities and solutions that would address a range of needs. The VA has issued a request for information (RFI) soliciting input on emerging technologies and steps toward potential partnerships.

The RFI, released by the agency’s Office of Discovery, Education, and Affiliate Networks (DEAN), details seven tasks it is asking potential vendors to comment on. First on the list is “Emerging Technology to Transform Clinical Care Delivery and Service.”

The VA notes the pace of change in healthcare and how technology can improve clinical care delivery. The agency said it needs to rapidly evaluate, test and integrate tech in clinical environments. This RFI is the first step in that process. In addition to advancements like 3D printing, virtual reality and AI, the RFI specifically mentions RPA among its information needs and potential partnerships.

“A Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Contractor will support VHA (Veterans Health Administration) in advancing the use of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) for clinical care delivery and service optimization,” the RFI says. “Use cases could include using RPA to automate collection of patient data during clinical visits, patient scheduling and automate administrative functions to enhance the clinical workflow and free providers to spend more time directly with Veterans. Contractor must possess subject matter expertise in clinical workflow optimization, deployment and adoption of automated solutions into the clinical workflow, as well as a deep knowledge of clinical informatics and software design.”

The agency is accepting feedback from potential vendors through May 13. Click here to read and/or respond to the request for information.
