President Trump, who was sworn into office on Monday, will receive a briefing from OpenAI’s Sam Altman on AI agents next week, according to an Axios report.
AI agents have taken process automation by storm over the last several months. The technology leverages—and reportedly surpasses—the prompt-and-respond interface popularized by the large language models being developed by OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta and others, by taking autonomous actions on its own after being set to a certain task.
Smaller startups are building on the work of the tech giants by developing AI agents that autonomously solve complex industry-specific problems and processes that require accessing disparate data sources, completing multiple tasks and making decisions without human intervention.
According to the Axios report, the meeting between Altman and the President will take place on Jan. 30 but is not attached to any specific announcement, but a “super-agent breakthrough could push generative AI from a fun, cool, aspirational tool to a true replacement for human workers.”
Altman characterized the meeting with President Trump as a way to “preview the state of AI advancement and how it can drive economic growth.”
