Results of an annual survey of CEOs indicates that RPA and AI technologies are an opportunity for organizations to address a disappointing “skills gap” they say is affecting organizations’ ability to innovate.

In its 22nd Annual Global CEO Survey, PwC found that more than half (55 percent) of all business leaders surveyed felt an inadequate “availability of key skills” resulting in an inability to innovate effectively. Fifty-two percent, the next most frequently cited answer, said the gap led to their “people costs rising more than expected.”

The report said spreading AI technologies, including RPA, widely through society will enable organizations to free up human capital to apply the skills they do have to finding innovative solutions to problems. And, reducing costs is one of RPA’s other goals.

While 63 percent of global executives feel AI and AI-related technologies will have a larger impact than the internet, however, nearly a quarter of “have no plans” to pursue AI in the short term.
