Nearly every company polled in a recent survey says they are engaged in at least planning for digital transformation, but the vast majority are not very far into the process. More than three quarters of companies in the 2022 State of Digital Transformation from Newgen Software indicate they have started their “digital transformation journey” within the last two years.

RPA and other intelligent automation technologies are an important part of digital transformation efforts, the goal of which are implementing strategies and technologies that enable businesses to operate in a 100 percent digital environment.

According to the report, two-thirds are focusing on transforming front-end processes, 60 percent solely on back-end processes and less than 40 percent are engaged in transforming both. Newgen’s analysis says the vast majority of successful transformations occur in companies that apply digital transformation to the entire organization.

“Newgen has consistently seen its customers embrace digital transformation over the past several years,” said Virender Jeet, CEO of Newgen Software. “The research illustrates that most enterprises are in the thick of it. It’s a complex process, and only a quarter have completed their transformation.”

In addition to an end-to-end philosophy, Newgen says two other characteristics tend to predict success in digital transformation. Top-tier enterprises prioritize a commitment to digital transformation. They are also far more likely to be engaged with low-code technologies.
