Just a week after having muscled its way into second place in the RPA market, according to a noted consultancy in the space, Microsoft has signaled that its moves to accumulate market share are not finished when it announced it will make its Power Automate Desktop solution available free as part of Windows 10.

Since acquiring RPA technology provider Softomotive in May 2020, Microsoft has made a string of announcements regarding its low-code automation solution. In December, the Seattle-area software juggernaut made Power Automate Desktop generally available for a fee and, starting March 2, Windows 10 users can now download the tool at no additional cost.

As Microsoft is aggressively pushing its low-code desktop RPA solution, it is doing the same for its attended automation solution. The announcements, made at the company’s virtual Microsoft Ignite global developers conference, included a temporary price cut for its attended Power Automate solution. From April 1 through Sept. 30, the enterprise software giant will slash its monthly per user fee that includes attended automation capability from $40 to $15.
