SAP Acquires SmartRecruiters to Add AI-Driven Automation Tools to HR Suite

ERP providers continue to add capabilities to their platforms to enable automating processes across a wider range of business functions. The most recent example came this week when German ERP giant SAP acquired SmartRecruiters, a Bay Area startup in the HR space.

The deal bolsters SAP’s SuccessFactors human capital management suite by adding the San Francisco-based company’s AI-enabled recruitment automation and candidate experience tools. Terms of the acquisition were not publicly disclosed, but Bloomberg reported that industry observers estimate the transaction could be worth approximately $1.5 billion.

“Hiring the right people is not just an HR priority – it’s a business priority. With this planned acquisition, we will help our customers attract and hire the best talent so they can advance their talent acquisition agendas with speed and agility, while lowering their total cost of ownership,” said Muhammad Alam, member of the Executive Board of SAP SE, SAP Product & Engineering. “Customers will be able to manage the entire candidate lifecycle — from sourcing and interviewing to onboarding and beyond — all in a single system to streamline the experience for recruiters, hiring managers and, in particular, candidates.”
