The United Nations is the most recent institution to set up a technology center to develop innovative digital solutions to perform its mission. And, increasingly often, those institutions have explicitly referenced RPA as one of the important technologies it seeks to develop.

The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the World Food Programme (WFP) announced they have partnered with the United Nations International Computing Centre (ICC) to establish the UN Digital Solutions Center (UNDSC). The center will look at RPA, AI and blockchain technology to improve the efficiency of UN agencies as they serve constituencies around the world.

The partner agencies said they have identified several processes that RPA could automate including the sanctions screening process and invoice processing.

The UNDSC will be jointly managed by UNHCR and WFP and housed in the ICC. The UN also will create an Innovation Advisory Board composed whose members will be from the private sector. The WFP’s Innovation Accelerator will also provide support.
