The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), in the midst of an effort to modernize its systems, is seeking input from automation professionals. The federal agency specifically identified RPA as an area they are exploring to help transition its record-keeping system to a modern electronic health record (EHR) system.
The VA issued a request for information (RFI) seeking feedback on the capabilities, system requirements, delivery models and pricing of available tools and solutions from various vendors in the RPA space. The VA said they are still seeking information. This is not yet a Request for Proposals.
According to the RFI, the VA is considering a managed services approach that would include not only an RPA tool, but staff to train agency personnel and for maintenance of the project.
A spending bill approved by the House Appropriations Committee on July 9 would provide $2.6 billion for the VA’s EHR program this year. EHR Modernization, the department’s signature initiative, is slated to cost $16 billion over 10 years.
