The number of transactions conducted via agentic commerce could grow from approximately 620 million in 2026 to 120 billion annually by 2031, according to new research from Juniper Research.
While much of the early experimentation has focused on consumer applications, the U.K.-based advisory firm predicts significant potential for the technology in B2B commerce.
In Agentic Commerce Market 2026-2031 ($), Juniper said many B2B purchases already flow through structured systems including corporate travel management and procure-to-pay platforms. That could make enterprise commerce particularly suited to AI agents because developers can integrate with a comparatively limited number of platforms rather than individual e-commerce merchants.
In the report, however, the company acknowledged that enterprise adoption will depend on making agent purchasing decisions auditable and explainable. It recommends that platforms accurately identify users’ intent while incorporating spending limits and controls from corporate expense policies.
“Businesses are going all-in on AI systems to boost efficiency, and procurement will be the next area to be impacted by AI tools” said Nick Maynard, vice president of Research at Juniper Research. “However, to succeed, AI systems must be able to adhere to the rigid constraints of procurement processes, or businesses will quickly lose confidence.”
