A Los Angeles-based company said it has launched advanced software leveraging natural language processing (NLP) and artificial intelligence (AI) to enable healthcare organizations to process unstructured data that is part of their patients’ medical records.

Consensus Cloud Solutions said Clarity CD automatically routes unstructured clinical data from fazes, handwritten notes and scanned documents into the correct patient record. The NLP and AI engine extracts data from unstructured documents and automatically populates that data in a Continuity of Care Document, which is then securely messaged to the patient’s electronic health record (EHR).

“The reality is faxes and handwriting remain prevalent in our day-to-day healthcare system, and many are still years away from eliminating paper,” said Scott Turicchi, CEO of Consensus Cloud Solutions. “Instead of ignoring it, our focus is to use advanced NLP and AI solutions to support providers where they are today and make real strides in improving care quality, reducing staff burnout, and protecting patient data security.”
