Microsoft recently said it would adopt Google’s AI Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol, enabling more interoperability and seamless communication across platforms by AI agents. Launched in April, the A2A protocol lets AI agents from different providers exchange information and coordinate tasks.
Microsoft said AI agents used by organizations to automate not only processes but decision making has scaled incredibly fast and, as agents take on more sophisticated work, they need more access to diverse models, diverse tools and each other.
“We’re aligning with the broader industry push for shared agent protocols—doing what we’ve always done: embracing openness, supporting real-world developers, and turning experimentation into enterprise-grade platforms,” said Yina Arenas, vice president of product for Azure AI Foundry at Microsoft. “Our goal is simple: empower both pro and citizen developers to build agents that interoperate across clouds and frameworks.”
