Shopify Touts Intelligent Automation for E-Commerce Businesses

E-commerce technology provider Shopify recently published a primer on its blog offering users of the platform a beginner’s guide to intelligent automation and how it could improve their e-com businesses.

Shopify, launched in 2006 by two Canadians trying to sell snowboards online, enables businesses to build e-commerce stores and accept payments. The platform provides users an array of business management tools including product sourcing, sales and inventory tracking, payment processing, shipping, customer accounts, marketing and reporting. And, according to the post titled “Maximizing Efficiency with Intelligent Automation: A Practical Guide,” users can tap the power of intelligent automation in many of these areas.

“Intelligent automation is the perfect illustration of innovation in action—integrating two powerful technologies to deliver outsized results,” the company wrote in its post. “At its core, IA blends robotic process automation (focused on processes) with artificial intelligence (focused on data) to streamline business operations on a massive scale. Right now, it’s transforming how businesses boost efficiency and productivity, especially for those ready to embrace its potential in today’s ultracompetitive commerce landscape.”

The post lays out how intelligent automation has evolved, the overlapping technologies it leverages, how it works, how it complements business process management, some of the more common workflows people have automated with the tech and how it can be used in retail.
