Strivve has launched upgrades to its card-on-file platform it says will support agentic commerce by helping financial institutions position their payment cards as the default option when AI assistants complete purchases on behalf of consumers.
The Seattle-based company said the offering is designed for a growing market in which AI assistants can select merchants, complete purchases and process payments. The platform builds on Strivve’s existing card-on-file automation technology by adding support for AI-driven transactions while allowing issuers to retain control of payment credentials.
According to a press release, the new capability also supports the Trusted Agent Protocol, an industry framework introduced by Visa and partners to help verify agent-initiated transactions. The company said the agentic commerce functionality is currently available through an early access program for a limited number of issuers.
CEO and co-founder Chris Hopen said the shift toward AI-assisted purchasing changes how payment providers compete for transaction volume.
“For fifteen years, winning top of wallet meant being the card a consumer reached for. In agentic commerce, the consumer doesn’t reach for anything — the agent does. The issuers who win will be the ones whose card is already there when the agent pays. We make that automatic.”
The announcement reflects increasing attention across the payments industry to how AI agents may influence consumer purchasing and payment preferences as autonomous commerce becomes more widely adopted.
