The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has asked the intelligent automation community for proposals from vendors that will deliver 35 to 50 automation annually, according to a request for information (RFI) posted recently by the agency to the U.S. government’s procurement site.

The IRS is looking for information (not proposals or bids, it stressed in the RFI) that will enable its process automation program to scale beyond its current capabilities. The agency is seeking information on technical capabilities, staffing structure and required qualifications that would allow for a significant increase in deployed automations.

“The RPA program is seeking vendors with significant experience in Robotic Process Automation; however, our interest is in technical software engineering concepts and scaling,” the IRS said. “The RPA program is within the IT branch in the IRS and therefore we address a lot of IT challenges not related to RPA.  Some of these areas include FISMA, Authority to Operate, Application Program Interfaces, data input/scraping with mainframes, digitizing paper forms, automating daily tasks and generally providing solutions to complex IT challenges in the government.”

While it is not accepting contracting bids at the moment, the post did ask if responding companies would want to bid on a new Blanket Purchase Agreement with the IRS in the future.

The agency is seeking responses by Jan 2, 2024. Interested companies can access the RFI here.
