Databricks Bolsters Security Capability with Acquisition

Databricks has announced plans to acquire Panther, another San Francisco-based company, to expand the security it is able to deliver with its lakehouse offering.

Panther provides AI-based technology for security operations centers (SOC) that helps organizations collect security data, detect threats and automate investigation workflows. The acquisition follows Databricks’ introduction of Lakewatch, its security lakehouse platform, and builds on earlier security acquisitions including Antimatter and SiftD.ai. The company said combining Panther with Lakewatch will allow organizations to consolidate security data and incorporate AI agents into security operations center workflows for alert triage and investigations.

“Legacy SIEM was never designed for AI,” said Ali Ghodsi, co-founder and CEO of Databricks. “With Panther, we enhance and expand our ability to analyze all data and automate SOC workflows. Together, we can offer the best platform to help defend the world against agentic attacks.”

Panther was founded by the creator of the open source StreamAlert project and has focused on cloud-native security operations. The proposed acquisition remains subject to customary closing conditions, including required regulatory approvals. Financial terms were not disclosed.
